i can’t sleep…so i youtube

It is sunday morning…early morning, nearly 4 am to be exact, and I can’t sleep. So what do I do when I can’t sleep? I search on youtube of course. So I will post my latest finds on youtube….some have been my favorites for a while…

Ok so this first video is matchbox twenty performing HOW FAR WE’VE COME, but its the acoustic version and I absolutely LOVE IT!

So I like acoustic versions of a ton of songs…he is the acoustic version of THE KILL by 30 Seconds to Mars…i found another version on youtube that had like violins and a cello with it and it sounded really cool but jared didnt sing it that well and i would much rather him singing the song so i chose this version…I LOVE JARED LETO!

Ok well he is Jared Leto performing THE MODERN MYTH with the violins and such and it sounds pretty good…i like this song, its normally performed in the acoustic though

ok so i guess this blog has turned into Jared Leto singing because i keep finding acoustic versions of all the 30 seconds to mars songs i like…this is THE STORY

ok well i should probably go to bed now, or at least try. i was going to end my videos with another jared leto video but it bugs me when i search jared leto on youtube all that comes up are a ton of fan made videos titled JARED LETOS SEXINESS to the song IM TO SEXY FOR MY SHIRT or whatever…i mean, yes, jared leto is sexy, but i don’t need a photo montage to tell me so…i swear there are so many of those retarded videos out there, and to be honest i dont feel like searching through that crap at the moment…so maybe another time. later

smithville, tx

On Saturday I went on a mini road trip with my mom and two aunts to Smithville to do some antique shopping. Smithville is a small texas town about an hour and a half away from Houston and on the way to San Antonio. If you’ve ever seen the movie Hope Floats with Sandra Bullock and Harry Connick Jr. then you have seen this small town, because it is where they movie is filmed and takes place. This town is a very small and friendly town. All the people that live there say it is the best place to live and the friendliest town and they are so proud of the fact that two movies were filmed there..Hope Floats and a new movie called Tree of Life that stars Sean Penn and Brad Pitt. This town also boasts how safe the place is. Apparently, the town is so safe nobody has locks on their doors. Multiple people told us this as if it was their town moto. I find it funny how they openly admit to outsiders they don’t lock their doors…people in your town might not steal from you, but I’m sure there might be some outsiders who would almost find it welcoming to walk in an unlocked house and take advantage of the situation. Not that I would….I’m just just saying maybe you might not want to make that public information. We also saw a motorcycle with its keys in the ignition and left along…honestly, thats just inviting someone to take your ride. Anyways, after we did a little shopping, we went to see the house that was in the movie Hope Floats and it was so cute. We also saw the photo lab Sandra Bullocks character works at in the movie and we ate in the towns only restaurant where they had some of the memorabilia from the movie such as the SNAPPY SNAPS photo lab sign. I could not imagine living in a town that small. I mean, it was a cute town and was interesting to visit…but to live there, now that would be tough.

Movie Review: The Dark Knight

Ok so here is this weeks review. If you haven’t read any of my previous posts then you probably don’t know how excited I was to see The Dark Knight. Well, I finally saw it on opening night at the midnight showing and it was AWESOME. It was so much better then Batman Begins. In my opinion, the Joker is what made the movie. Heath Ledger did a wonderful job portraying the joker. He was very twisted and disgusting yet very entertaining and funny. This movie had a lot more twists and turns that kept you entertained and wanting more, unlike the first one. Christian Bale was also a lot hotter in this movie (in the last movie his hair bothered me to no end). I had very few problems with this movie. My biggest issue was the fact that it felt like it was about to end like 8 times… you know, like how The Lord of the Rings usually does. It was also a little tough to stay awake during it being that it was two and a half hours long and the movie didn’t start till midnight, but that really had nothing to do with the movie. At least I wasn’t upset about Heath being dead like I though I would. I thought once I saw him on screen I would feel bad about his whole situation and not be able to enjoy the movie, but that wasn’t the case. So, If your wanting to see a great movie this weekend, I highly recommend The Dark Knight. It has a great plot, action, great special effects, great actors, great everything and Christian Bale HOTTNESS! Enjoy!

Bookstore browsers

This Friday’s secret for the challenge is that when I go to bookstores I judge people based on what section they are looking through. See I go to the bookstore a lot, if I’m bored and don’t know what to do or just feel the need to go somewhere, I usually go to Barnes and Noble or Hastings or Books A Million…I just like bookstores. So I have process when I go to a bookstore. First, I browse through the new books, then I go look through the fiction section, then I usually go to the history and biography sections because they are next to each other, then I look through the art section, and on my way out of the store I look through the bargain section. Now all of these sections are in different places in the store, so I am walking around the entire store. While I’m going through these sections I glance at other people and look at what they are browsing through…like the fantasy and Anime/Manga section are by the fiction section, so when I go to the fiction section I check out the people in those other two sections and I’m my head I’m thinking “man look at those nerds”, and to be honest they do look pretty nerdy. Then I might decide to go to the art section, now while most the people in the art section are looking at normal art books on technique or looking up artists or whatever, there is always that one person who you can tell never goes to the art section…last time I was in the art section a boy who was probably like 13 was looking in a nude photography book, and I highly doubt he was admiring the artistic nature of the photos…my theory was proven correct when he saw me giving him a questionable look and he got really nervous and put the book back as fast as he could and walked away. When I go to the history and biography section I am right next to the christian section, a section that I usually avoid. I see a person In that section browsing through a book on spreading the word of God and I feel if i get too close I will be the next victim on their “lets save another lost soul” tally sheet just because they see me carrying a fictional book about vampires, because you know if you read a book on vampires you must not be a child of God (notice the sarcasm?). Or better yet maybe some way or another they find out I’m Catholic and think I’m a heathen and need to be converted to christianity because they are too dense to know a Catholic is a Christian…no wait that doesn’t happen at the bookstore, that happens at Baylor, my bad. Anyways, I guess my judging people in the bookstore kind of goes along with the whole “you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover” thing. Or maybe its like the “you are what you eat” only it is “you are what you read”…maybe not. For now I will just continue my people watching in Barnes and Noble and stick with my assumptions of what kind of person you are…it keeps me entertained. You should try it.

tonight’s the night!

So it is finally Thursday July 17th! The day I have been waiting to come for months and months! Do you have any clue what I’m talking about? Probably not…so here it is…I’M SEEING THE DARK NIGHT TONIGHT AT MIDNIGHT! yay! I’m so freakin excited, I can’t even begin to tell you. I love the new Batman movies and I am a huge fan of both Christian Bale and Heath Ledger so this should be awesome. There is only one thing I am kind of worried about, and you may think this is cheesy and laugh at me or whatever, but here it is. I’m afraid that when I see Heath Ledger in the movie I will get sad and won’t get past the fact that he died and will not be able to enjoy the movie to the full extent. It’s weird, I’ve never felt truly sad when a celebrity died until Heath Ledger. It’s not like I’m an obsessed fan either and just can’t stand that I will not be seeing his “Hotness” or anything like that. I think what makes me the saddest is that he was an incredible actor with so much more ahead of him. I mean, he has always been a great actor but he finally was getting out of the teen kind of movies and doing more serious stuff that really showed how talented he truly was. All though I think it is tragic the way he died and I will miss seeing new movies starring him, I gotta say….at least he went out with a bang, because I know (without even seeing the movie yet) that he did an incredible job acting as the Joker. So, when I’m sitting in the theater tonight at midnight, I’m going to try my best to enjoy the movie and admire the hottness of Christian Bale and maybe that will take the edge off of my “oh, poor Heath” brain waves.

Music: From elementary to College

I came across this article that talked about how one’s personal taste in music evolves from childhood. It was actually very interesting, but since it’s been a couple days I’ve kind of forgotten a lot of what it actually talked about and I can’t find the article again. What I did remember was that sometimes If you map out what type of music you listened to at different age levels (elementary, middle, high school and college etc) there can be many reasons for your liking that particular band or whatever that actually have nothing to do with their music but more of the fad or media that is evolved around it. Also another thing that may contribute to your liking that particular style could be due to the stigma involved with that genre. Of course reasons like these aren’t always the case, it could just be that you like them, and one way you can tell this is if you still enjoy that music. So what the article said to do, just for fun basically, what to map out types of music you listened to and to think about why you listened to them etc. to see if your reasons were for pure enjoyment or fads or media etc. I don’t exactly remember if there was a bigger point to this other then the “lets just see” factor, but whatever I’m bored so I will do it anyways.

so here I go:

before 4th grade - I really didn’t have a personal music taste at this time so I listened to whatever my parents listened to which was oldies and classic rock….so we go Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, ZZ Top, Doobie Brothers, Steve Miller Band, Aerosmith, Elton John, Aretha Franklin, Queen, The Doors, The Eagles, James Taylor, Pink Floyd, Lynyrd Synyrd,  Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix…ok you get the drift

4th to 5th grade - ok so this would be my pop phase I guess you could say…Nsync, Britney Spears, 98 Degrees…actually I guess thats the most POP I liked…uhh…No Doubt, Jewel, Matchbox 20, U2, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and still the classic rock stuff….can’t really think of much else….

Middle School - well i definatly developed my taste a bid here lol…ok so we got….Blink182, Limp Bizkit, Nelly, Eminem, Eve 6, Goo Goo Dolls, Lifehouse, Sugar Ray, The Cranberries, Puddle of Mudd, Papa Roach, Dr. Dre, Kidrock, Linkin Park, Lit, Nirvana….and a lot more that are around the rap genre and such..

High School - hmmm lets see….here I started listening to stuff more like Bon Jovi, Journey, ACDC, Simple Plan,  Gavin Degraw, Good Charlotte, 3 Doors Down, Green Day, Guns N’ Roses, Nickelback, The Ramones, The Clash, Styx, Sum41, Weezer…etc…

College - well..since college I have added to my collection of music…All American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, Bowling for Soup, Bryan Greenberg, Buckcherry, 30 Seconds to Mars, Coldplay, The Fray, Hinder, Jacks Mannequin, Johnny Cash, Justin Timberlake, My Chemical Romance, Rufus Wainwright, Switchfoot, and country stuff like Tim Mcgraw, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Carrie Underwood, Dierks Bentley, Garth Brooks and Trace Adkins. I also like a ton of random bands most people don’t even know about but whatever…

Ok so after looking at this list, minus a couple things, I pretty much still listen to all this stuff. The only stuff I don’t listen to anymore would be Britney Spears, Nsync and 98 Degrees, pretty much the pop stuff…but even every now and then i get bored and want to go down memory lane and listen to a lil nsync lol. Whenever I found a band I liked I pretty much still like them such as Matchbox Twenty and U2 and all the classic rock stuff. I listen to that stuff every day. So all in all I pretty much have the most random taste in music considering I listen from everything from matchbox twenty to nirvana to trace adkins to the rolling stones all in one day lol. Oh well…I wish I could remember exactly what that article was talking about so I wouldn’t just post all the music I listen to because Im sure what the article had to say was a ton more interesting. Too late now, that is all.

Smile

So, I have a new favorite song…well it at least broke the top ten. I’m sure you’ve heard of it, it’s called SMILE. The song Smile was originally used for the 1936 Charlie Chaplin movie MODERN TIMES , and Chaplin even composed it himself. Now the song itself has been redone over and over and over again throughout the years by people such as Nat King Cole, Rod Stewart, Michael Buble, Tony Bennett, and my favorite, Robert Downey Jr. Ok so since the title SMILE may not ring a bell, I will post the lyrics and I’m sure you will know what song I’m talking about. So here are the lyrics:

Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though its breaking
When there are clouds in the sky, youll get by
If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
Youll see the sun come shining through for you

Light up your face with gladness
Hide every trace of sadness
Although a tear may be ever so near
Thats the time you must keep on trying
Smile, whats the use of crying?
Youll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

<instrumental interlude>

Thats the time you must keep on trying
Smile, whats the use of crying?
Youll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile

The lyrics are telling the listener to cheer up and there will be a bright tomorrow as long as you smile. It’s such as simple notion but still moving. See, over the years I have heard all the versions and I’ve liked the song..but recently I heard Robert Downey Jr.’s version that he did for the movie CHAPLIN (which he also stared as Chaplin) and I fell in love with his version of the song. I never knew he even could sing until I heard this song. There is just something about it that sounds so sincere and it makes me happy. It has like a classic jazzy feel to it too which makes it really cool. If you want to check it out, which I think you should, its on his debut album called The Futurist. There is another version of the song by Robert Downey Jr. that i heard too but its like a weird remix and I didn’t like it, so make sure you find the version he did for his cd or you will have no clue what I’m talking about lol.  So check it out!

The Safety of Objects

Ok so I don’t really have anything important to say right now…but I did rent a movie last night that was AWESOME. It’s called THE SAFETY OF OBJECTS and has a great cast…Glenn Close, Joshua Jackson, Dermot Mulroney, Timothy Olyphant etc. (i especially liked it because i love joshua jackson and timothy olypant). It’s kinda hard to explain what it’s about so i’ll paste something of someone else explaining it…

A series of overlapping stories about four suburban families dealing with different maladies. Esther Gold’s (Close) life is consumed by caring for her comatose son (joshua jackson); Jim Train (Mulroney) is sent into a tailspin when he’s passed over for a promotion; Annette Jenning’s (Clarkson) family is struggling in the wake of her divorce; Helen Christianson (Place) is determined to shake up her mundane life.

ya so that really didn’t explain anything but its an awesome movie…i rented it on iTUNES so you should do the same, its kinda hard to find anywhere else. enjoy!

here is the trailer…it gives the gist of it..

relax now, stress out later…thats my moto

So lately I’ve noticed I don’t enjoy doing things I used to do. Not that I don’t enjoy them necessarily, but I just don’t want to do anything, whether I think it will be fun or not. At first I thought it may be depression, after all it does sound like one of the typical commercials for depression, but I’ve been depressed before and its just not the same. So after feeling this way for about a month or two now I think I may have found the problem. The same thing keeps going in and out of my mind this summer…every time I think about it I get stressed and start to dread it. It’s the upcoming fall semester that is making me feel this way. It has to be. Ever since I signed up for my courses for the fall I just keep thinking how bad its going to be. I have a full load of 18 hours…5 studios and an art history class, so thats a total of 33 hours of class a week (studios double in hours). So, while I have a pretty laid back month right now, just a couple of HPs and work, leaving me more then enough time for free time to have fun…in the back of my mind I’m thinking “In the fall your not going to have time to do anything, your going to be so tired and stressed, better relax while you can now”. So, while I could be going to parties, or adventures and having a blast, I would much rather stay at home and watch a movie or read a book…or just sleep for that matter. So, I guess it’s not depression, just stress for what’s to come. Maybe the stress to come is making me a tad depressed, who knows. All I know is that I’m perfectly content with sitting at home doing nothing for 2 months until school starts, because I have a feeling it is not going to be a good semester. Hopefully I will be wrong…I pray to all that is holy that I will be wrong…we shall see.

movie review: chaplin

Ok so here is my weekly review for the challenge between me and daronline (if you have no clue what I am talking about see to entry from last tuesday).

If you’ve been living under a rock your whole life and don’t know much about Charlie Chaplin, or even who he is for that matter, then you should watch the movie CHAPLIN. This movie has a great cast with actors such as Robert Downey Jr, Dan Akroyd, David Duchovney, Kevin Kline, and a ton of others. Robert Downey Jr. plays the role of Chaplin and does an EXCELLENT job. In fact, this movie is the one that made me realize how great of an actor Robert Downey Jr. really is. If you didn’t already know, Charlie Chaplin was a silent movie actor/director comedian from 1914 to the 1960’s. The movie is pretty much a full biography of Chaplin, starting when he was a child in England to him telling his life story in the 70’s. What makes this movie great is Robert Downey Jr.’s ability to not only capture who Chaplin was as a person, but also as an actor. If you have seen old Charlie Chaplin movies you will be in awe when you see Robert Downey Jr. do the same bits and skits Chaplin created. RDJ’s acting while being Chaplin is almost identical to the original and at times you forget he is not the actual Charlie Chaplin. What also is a special touch to the movie is when they take the normal scenes in the movie, such as the Chaplin hiding from the police, and turn it into the typical Charlie Chaplin silent film. Parts like this in the movie keep it entertaining. While it may be a long movie, every bit is interesting and enjoyable, so if you like Charlie Chaplin or don’t know much about him and think you might, you need to see this movie.
